Avenged Sevenfold的團名由來，是來自於聖經的的一段故事:
創世紀第四章中提到亞當(Adam)跟夏娃(Eve)的兩個兒子--該隱(Cain)和亞伯(Abel)
該隱是農民，亞伯是牧羊人。他們長大成人後向耶和華獻上供物，
該隱獻上「地裏出產的蔬菜」；亞伯獻上「羊群中所生的羊以及羊的脂油」
上帝看中亞伯的供物，看不中該隱的。該隱因此感到非常憤怒。
上帝看出他的憤怒，告訴他：「你若行得好，豈不蒙悅納？」

復仇(Avenged)的人將會受到七倍(Sevenfold，古代英文乘法的用法為"數字+fold"，簡寫為nX，也就是為什麼團名簡稱是A7X)的懲罰，這就是七級煉獄團名的由來。
Chapter Four這首歌即是說明團名的由來，訴說創世紀第四章(Chapter Four)Cain跟Abel的故事
整首歌以Cain作第一人稱敘述

雖然我不是基督徒，主唱M.Shadows也說過他們引用了聖經的故事，但並不想把自己塑造成基督樂團，"很多人已經做過類似的事了"，他說。
但是這首歌可以讓我們思考：什麼是正義(Justice)？什麼是饒恕(Forgiveness)？
閱讀這些宗教經典，無論是否信仰它，我認為更重要的是找出值得思索的內涵，找到它想告訴我們的事情，而不是一味地信仰它或屏棄它。

該隱被驅逐後自建了一座城，維持家庭並繁衍後代。他的後代也變得好勇鬥狠。後來，大洪水將所有不正義的人毀滅，該隱的家系也隨之終止。
